Head of Childcare & Education
Based at Berkhamsted, but to include regional travel across the group
Key purpose of the role of Head of Childcare and Education:
To lead a professional team of childcare and education managers to ensure that standards of care and education are set, maintained and developed to meet the company objectives of delivering world class childcare and education as well as ensuring compliance with regulations.
Reporting to the Managing Director and the Board.
Key Accountabilities:
Manage a team of Childcare and Education professionals to ensure standards are set, maintained and developed to meet the company objectives of delivering world class childcare and education.
- Manage, support and coach C&E managers.
- Observe, coach and monitor C&E visits to ensure that nurseries receive appropriate and consistent support to implement good practise.
- Monitor and evaluate quality of Childcare and Education delivery within the nurseries.
Actively participate with the overall management of the business:
- Provide advise and support with regard to childcare and education best practice and compliance to other Asquith department and colleagues
- Participate and deliver in-house training
- Attend management meetings and reviews.
- Attend and participate in Asquith events
- Maintain and participate in appropriate sector activities outside Asquith e.g. conferences, local forums.
Skills & Abilities:
- Over 5 years experience in a management role in the delivery of services for young children in full day care
- Experience of teaching adults of different ages and experiences in the field of childcare and education
- Experience of Management of private sector day nurseries
- Experience of quality assurance
Education and Training:
- A graduate level Childcare and Education qualification
- Early Years Professional Status
- A Management Qualification
Knowledge:
- A sound knowledge of child development for children from birth to five years
- A sound understanding of the ‘Birth to Three Matters Framework’ and the ‘Curriculum Guidance for the Foundation Stage’ / Early years Foundation Stage.
- A knowledge and understanding of research related to childcare and education.
- An understanding of a play based approach to children’s learning and development
- Knowledge and Understanding of the ‘National Standards for Under Eights Daycare and Childminding’ for Full Day Care, the role of Ofsted and legislation related to childcare and education.
- Understanding of the role of the ‘Key Person’
- Knowledge and understanding of government policy including the 10 year strategy, every child matters and related to the development of Children’s Centres
- Knowledge and understanding of the children’s workforce reform agenda
- A sound knowledge of child protection procedures
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Effective Leadership skills
- An understanding of and commitment to equal opportunities
- An understanding of Health and Safety in the workplace
- A commitment to staff development and training
