'Wisdom begins in wonder'

Little Forest Folk is an exciting new concept in urban nursery childcare.

We are full time forest nurseries, open 51 weeks a year from 8am-6pm for 2-5 year olds. We play exclusively outdoors in magical woodland locations from 9am-4pm all year around. There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing.

We opened our first setting in Wimbledon in January 2015 and achieved an Ofsted Outstanding for the nursery in January 2016. We have opened four more nurseries since. Due to overwhelming demand for our unique approach to childcare, we are working hard to open further London settings and are looking for inspirational leaders to manage our teams at our new locations.

We are a social enterprise dedicated to providing a high standard of education for all children and as such we offer 12.5% of our places free of charge to children from deprived backgrounds. It is incredibly important to us to give all children the opportunity to enjoy magical and inspirational experiences in nature. Even the great Sir David Attenborough has commented in letters to us how valuable an opportunity we are providing not only to allow children to develop and learn in the best possible way, but we are also creating the future custodians of our planet.

'Childhood is a state that ends the first time a puddle is viewed as an obstacle rather than an opportunity'

Our nursery is child led and play based and we believe it's of great importance to allow children the freedom to be physically active all day whilst enjoying a deep connection to nature. Our children demonstrate amazingly high levels of wellbeing and happiness and are developing incredibly with our unique approach - we are proud of providing a healthy and happy childhood for all of our children. We run, we climb trees, we roll down hills, we splash in puddles, we cloud gaze, we go on mini beast hunts, we PLAY. We engage in all consuming play and whilst enjoying the joy, wonder and magic of nature play we are learning key life skills to develop into being independent, confident, self-motivated, resilient and curious little characters. We give children the childhood they deserve.

'Be the change you want to see in the world'

Our ideal leader will have not only relevant qualifications but a great passion for nature play and will be excited at the prospect of spending time engaged with children outdoors. We have a strong back office team at Little Forest Folk to support managers and take away some of the boring paperwork. We want managers who love children and want to spend some time in the forest with the children. Although our managers are supernumerary, we believe you can more effectively lead and inspire your team to constantly provide the best experience for our children through spending time together playing with the children. It is only through regular observation of the children at play in the forest that our leader will understand the joy that our nursery brings and the social impact we are having.

A minimum of level 3 in early years childcare is required and if you have any experience in forest schools or outdoor education then that would also be welcomed.

Salary offered will be £28,000 to £35,000 depending on experience with significant performance related bonuses. Further benefits include 20 days annual leave in addition to bank holidays. And of course we don't expect you to work on your birthday when you work for Little Forest Folk.
