Nursery Manager, Scunthorpe

As the manager you will be responsible for the day to day running of the nursery ensuring all staff work together to sustain a provision that is a safe and stimulating environment to promote learning and meet the needs of the children. You will keep up to date with local and national  developments in early years childcare and education and adhere to Ofsted’s Early Years Foundation Stage standards 2017. You will possess the knowledge and skills to promote effective partnership working with  parents, carers, schools and childcare professionals to promote good outcomes for children and support them to reach their potential..

Your management responsibilities will include leading and managing staff to ensure an exceptionally high level of care, teaching and learning within a nurtuting and stimulating environment. You will also be responsible for ensuring staff development opportunities through training and effective supervisions. Further duties include ensuring the equipment and building are maintained to a high standard, for example environmental requirements, health and safety and fire regulations, managing a budget and developing ideas and methods of marketing the nursery.

Ability to encourage, motivate and support staff to maintain a harmonious and enjoyable work environment that consistently achieves a high standard of childcare, promoting good outcomes for children.

Ability to lead quality practice and challenge staff  performance if/ when required

A passion for improving outcomes and life chances for children

Good organisational skills to ensure the smooth running of the nursery, including managing finances, fees, staff pay sheets, organising building maintenance work and keeping records.

A keen interest in researching and implementing new and approved methods of enhancing child care via support from the Local Authority, external training courses and current legislation, passing on that guidance to staff and working alongside them and their ideas to continuously improve the setting.

Basic IT skills are required in order to access the provider portal to claim the 2,3 and 4 year old EYF funding, to manage the 30 hour eligibility check process and to assist parents in applying for two year old funding. Furthermore you will need to assist with creation of marketing materials, write and email letters and have a knowledge of Microsoft Excel to organise fees.

Key Requirements

Early Years Teacher/Professional status (desirable)

Minimum level 3 qualification in childcare (essential)

Level 2 qualification in English and Maths  (essential)

2 years work experience with children in a nursery setting (essential)

Experience of supervising or managing staff (essential)  

Knowledge and experience of implementing EYFS (essential)

IT skills (essential)

Good communicator (essential)

You'll also need a background check by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Salary and Working Hours

Salary dependent on experience. You will be expected to work on average 35 hours per week, you will need to arrange your working hours between the nursery opening hours Monday-Friday, 7:30am to 6:00pm to best suit the needs of the nursery and manning requirements. You will expected to have some flexibility to cover for staff sickness and to arrange staff meetings which are usually after 6:00pm when all staff are available to attend.
