We are advertising for a Nursery Practitioner at our day-care in Nunhead, Greater London. All applicants should have at least 2 years experience in working within a day-care and should have at least level 2 or 3 in childcare. It is essential that all applicants have experience in working harmoniously with other staff members and working with children of between 6 months and 5 years old. A CRB check will be carried out and references will be requested.

Duties will include:

  • Adhering to the Policies and Procedures of Young and Smart Nursery and complying with the Health and Safety legislation and within the guidelines of Ofsted and the National Standards
  • Ensuring confidentiality is maintained at all times
  • Working as part of a team
  • Caring for and supervising the children, ensuring to their physical, emotional and intellectual needs are met at all times
  • Liaising with parents and negotiating working targets ensuring effective communication within the nursery
  • Offering all children equal opportunities with regards to their religious persuasion, racial origins, gender, disabilities, cultural or linguistic background; in particular, challenge situations where racism or discrimination is displayed
  • Regular record- keeping of development and observations
  • Positive management of children's behaviour
  • Preparation, care, cleanliness and maintenance of the playrooms and equipment
  • Providing a good role model for staff, students and helping new staff to fit into the nursery
  • Keeping accident, incident and Health and Safety records up to date
  • Supervising meals and mealtimes where appropriate
  • Attendance of staff meetings as arranged by the Nursery Manager
  • Participating in regular parents' evenings, publicity, open weekends and children's outings
  • Welcoming parents, children and visitors.  Showing a caring attitude towards distressed parents, children and staff
  • Ensuring that planning and preparation of all activities meet the children’s individual needs
  • Ensuring that long term and short term plans are submitted regularly and on time
  • Ensuring that the relevant forms are filled correctly, and are up to date and stored in the appropriate place
  • Assist staff members with their record keeping, ensuring observations are done and profiles are up to date
  • Managing staff within your room, issuing roles, duties and responsibilities
  • Identifying and following the correct procedures when dealing with child protection issues
  • Inducting new staff members on how the room operates, ensuring they feel welcomed and part of the team
  • Showing new parents around the nursery, introducing them to staff members and answering any questions or queries they may have
  • Writing reports; keeping observations, IEP and ABC forms to be submitted for children with additional needs
  • Ensuring that room staff are communicating positively, and using the communication book effectively
  • Ensuring the internal and external Settling-in Procedures are followed correctly and the children have a smooth settling-in experience
  • Carrying out regular room meetings to discuss planning, key group issues, set individual targets and strategies for children/staff when needed
  • Encouraging staff to use their initiative
  • Ensuring that the level of hygiene in the room meets the standard
  • Ensure that regularly cleaning and sterilizing is carried out on weekly/ daily basis within the room/s
  • Working with other agencies i.e. early years, Early intervention team, Ofsted, college tutors
  • Working closely with the Nursery Manager
