Manager – Lavender Nursery

Grade/Salary: ME12  £34,113 to £37,098 per annum pro rata (minimum 40 weeks Merton’s term time only plus one extra week)

We are looking for an experienced Manager to join our nursery based in Mitcham.

Lavender Nursery provides all year round and term time only full day care  places for up to 64 children aged 18 months to under 5, and is open from 7.45am to 6.00pm Monday to Friday, 49 weeks a year. There are also a further 48 places for children aged 2 and 3, who are taking up their ‘free’ early education entitlement within our pre-school. This is open from 9am to 4.30 pm, term time only.

The nursery is run by the local authority.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly confident, committed and organised individuals to run our nursery, working in partnership with parents/carers and other professionals to ensure all children reach their full potential in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage.

You will need to have recent and very extensive proven experience of managing staff in a childcare setting, and must be able to demonstrate your ability to undertake management responsibilities. You will also need excellent role model skills to enable you to ensure that staff can deliver outstanding quality care and education for children aged from 18 months to under 5 years of age.

You will need to be able to demonstrate your ability to supervise staff, oversee the quality of the care and learning they provide to children, take a lead for planning the curriculum, and track the progress of groups of children.

You must have a very good understanding of safeguarding and understand how children and families can be supported as part of the early intervention agenda and must have proven experience of supporting children with SEN within a childcare setting. You must be confident to write child development reports, and over see reports others have produced, using IT systems.

You will also need to have a flexible but organised approach to your work, so that you can ensure management responsibilities are carried out in a timely and efficient manner, whilst still holding a key person responsibility for children and being included within staffing ratios.

You must hold a Degree or equivalent qualification in early years, in relation to caring for children under 5 and must also be able to demonstrate significant applicable post qualification experience of caring for children aged 2 to 4 years of age. You must have experience of being able to support disadvantaged children and those with additional needs or special educational needs.
