We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and qualified reception teacher to join our successful and growing school in Quito.

About the School

BSQ is Ecuador's only truly British international school, where the English National Curriculum is taught with strong links to local language and culture. We are proud of our joint British-Ecuadorian roots and have a very strong reputation in the local and international community resulting in growing numbers and opportunities for expansion. Our Early Years Curriculum is based on UK best practice and incorporates continuous play, observational assessment, accessible provision, rich language development and lots of fun.

British School Quito is a foundation, with the sole purpose of providing education. We are an IB World School, accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the New England Association of Schools. We are licensed and accredited by the Ecuadorian Ministry of Education. The school is located in the beautiful Cumbaya valley to the East of Quito and 20 minutes from the airport. The Early Years, Primary and Secondary sections are all on one campus, which has rich local flora and fauna – hummingbirds are daily visitors to most areas. The school has an ICT lab, science laboratories, art and music facilities, a cafeteria, playgrounds, swimming pool and a sports field. We have a central library with an auditorium area for assemblies and productions and rich opportunities for outside play.

The school forms part of the Orbital Education group, an expanding group of international schools providing a British Education to an internationally diverse student population.  In addition to our school in Quito, the Orbital group have schools in other culturally attractive and historically important destinations, such as Spain, Hungary, Russia, Shanghai, Slovenia and the Middle East, with exciting plans to develop schools in new regions across the globe.  As part of the Orbital group, our staff have the opportunity to work and collaborate with colleagues around the world, supporting them to achieve excellent outcomes and enabling their students to achieve their potential. Staff also have the opportunity to be considered for roles at other schools within the group, giving them the opportunity to see the world at the same time as progressing their career.

About the Role

The role is due to start from August 2019 and will be to teach a Year 1 or Year 2 class of approximately 20 students. An excellent remuneration package is available with the possibility of the leadership of Read Write Inc for the right candidate with experience although this is not a requirement for the post.

BSQ has already built its reputation on high quality and high standards and as such it has similar high expectations of its staff.   The school therefore welcomes fully qualified, flexible, creative, child-centred teachers who will further enhance the quality of teaching and learning and also be prepared to contribute to the extra-curricular life of this busy school. Applicants are invited from teachers currently working in the UK maintained or independent school sectors and from those already posted overseas.

Applicants must have relevant qualifications and a minimum of 2 years teaching experience in a maintained, independent or international British style school or nursery and experience of recognised Early Years programmes.  Applicants must speak fluent English and hold British citizenship in order to secure the necessary visa.

BSQ Teachers:

  • live and learn with respect and care for each other.
  • live and learn with a happy and welcoming attitude to everyone.
  • live and learn with an active and determined approach to our ambitions.
