Deputy Manager

Smarty Pants Day Nursery, rated Outstanding by Ofsted in June 2017, has been running in Plaistow, Newham for a total of 24 years. Smarty Pants at Abbey Lane Children’s Centre, rated Outstanding by Ofsted in August 2017, has been running in Stratford, Newham for a total of 10 years.

We are currently seeking to recruit a passionate, caring and driven Nursery Deputy Manager to assist in leading our nursery team. We are looking for highly motivated and collaborative individuals who will support the nursery in attaining high levels of achievement.

The role involves:

  • Maintaining high standards in delivering the revised EYFS to help the children progress according to their developmental needs.
  • Working as part of the management team as the Deputy Manager in a caring and nurturing environment.
  • Working in partnership with parents and other external professionals to meet the varied needs of the children.
  • Qualifications and experience
  • Must have a minimum of NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in order to be considered for the position.
  • Experience of working in a nursery setting with experience of leading a staff team.
  • Up to date knowledge and understanding of the revised EYFS.
  • You will need to have a good command of spoken and written English.
  • An enhanced DBS check will be carried out.
  • Previous training, for example in paediatric first aid, safeguarding, SEN, food hygiene, health and safety and first aid at work.
  • High levels of commitment and a willingness to attain the highest levels of teaching and learning, with high expectations of children and practitioners
  • Have a sound knowledge of good nursery practice and an interest in keeping up to date. This will include attending training (including staff closure day training days) and cascading training within the staff team
  • Prior experience in a supervisory role and supporting others
  • Great communication, people management and time management skills
  • Show a willingness to undertake additional roles to meet the needs of the nursery
  • Genuine desire to work with children

Smarty Pants Day Nursery provides daycare for children from birth to five years. Smarty Pants has been established in Newham since 1995 and operate a chain of two nurseries, one of which is based in Children’s Centre.

 

As an organisation, we encourage staff development and offer internal and external training opportunities as part of our teams continued professional development. This includes three closure days each year for the staff  in our organisation to meet for group training sessions.

 

The nurseries are run by Jennifer and Sylvia Lewis and is a family owned and orientated organisation. Jennifer, the Finance Director was one of the first people to achieve the EYPS in Newham. Sylvia, the Head of Childcare works closely with the Early Years team in Newham in relation to the continual development of quality daycare provision in the Borough. This includes the development of the key person document which will be an aid to support the role of the key person working in Early Years. Her role also incorporates the implementation of Government Strategies and Quality Assurance to ensure that nurseries are an enabling environment for the children in their care.

 

The nurseries offer a range of services to meet the varied needs of children, parents and carers. This includes full time and part time care and the provision of the free nursery entitlement for  2, 3 and 4 year olds. We offer advice and support to parents and carers to ensure that they are able to access financial support towards the cost of childcare.
