To work as part of the Petra’s Place Early Intervention Therapy Team to deliver high quality evidence based early years therapy interventions and assessments to children under 5 with social communication needs (SCN), developmental delay or autism and their parents or carers.  

This a part-time role, working 2 days per week at our centre on Fulham Road.

 

Main Duties & Responsibilities: 

 

CLINICAL 

Working within a multidisciplinary team, to deliver specialist Speech and Language Therapy intervention to support child development, 

To provide goal orientated, evidence based early years assessments and intervention 

To deliver high quality clinical work, ensuring that all interventions are regularly and systematically evaluated against expected outcomes. 

To form good relationships with parents, involving them in their children’s assessments and plans to enhance outcomes. 

To inform and empower parents and carers in understanding the nature of their child’s challenges 

To develop programmes that parents and carers can use at home to support their child 

To develop good professional relationships with the team in order to provide a seamless service for the children and parents who access the service.  

To keep accurate and up-to-date clinical records and reports within the codes of practice and professional guidelines for Speech and Language Therapy, HCPC and in line with Petra’s Place clinical protocols.  

To clearly communicate the rationale for early interventions to relevant stakeholders including parents. 

To provide Speech and Language Therapy recommendations for Educational Healthcare plans and for other funding streams  

To work with complex, sensitive and challenging information from families and to address distressing and emotional needs of children and parents in an exemplary professional manner. 

To provide written guidance for family and staff and complete practical demonstration of equipment /specific interventions when required. 

To safeguard and promote the welfare of the clients accessing Speech and Language Therapy and raise any concerns to the safeguarding lead 

To ensure interventions delivered are culturally sensitive and address issues of diversity. 

To abide by the Organisation’s and the HCPC Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct. 

To follow the relevant professional body’s Continued Professional Development (CPD) scheme and adhere to the CPD requirements of the HCPC and of Petra’s Place. 

To achieve and demonstrate agreed standards of personal and professional development within agreed timescales. 

General  

To work in accordance with Petra’s Place policies, including safeguarding, risk assessment and health and safety. 

To partake in reflective supervision, annual appraisal and all other relevant meetings in line with Petra’s Place policy.  

To maintain coherent, up to date clinical records and files in line with GDPR data protection and information sharing protocols.   

To collate data and complete all reports and monitoring requirements in a timely and accurate manner and to attend allocation meetings as required.  

To take the lead on implementing pre and post outcome measures and submit all monitoring and evaluation data in a timely and coherent manner.  

To communicate service-related information internally and to external agencies when required in an effective manner. 

To take responsibility for the upkeep and hygiene of all equipment and materials used in the delivery of therapy sessions and to ensure that stocks are replenished in a timely way in accordance with the service budget. 

To undertake any duties required by management within scope of role. 

To cover for reception, admin or other duties to enable to smooth running of the centre when needed.                                              

 

 

 Person Specification 

Skills, Qualifications & Experience 

Qualifications 

Appropriately professionally trained and registered Speech and Language Therapy therapist  

Professional body membership 

HCPC registered  

Evidence of Continuing Professional Development relevant to this role 

Skills &  Experience 

Minimum of 3 years post qualifying experience of delivering early intervention therapy to children with autism or developmental delay and their parents in an early-years setting  

Significant understanding of and experience in working therapeutically with  
under 5s with developmental delay and autism  

Demonstrable strong understanding of child development attachment, separation and trauma  

Experience of forming therapeutic relationships with children and families  
with complex needs  

Excellent written and verbal communication skills  

Experience of assessment and treatment formulation 

Experience of working with outcome measures and of collating data in a meaningful way in order to contribute to the evidence base for Petra’s Place interventions 

Experience of working effectively with safeguarding issues following local protocols and legislation 

 

The responsibilities of the post require the post-holder to have significant unsupervised children and families. An enhanced DBS disclosure will be required prior to appointment. This post is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974
