We are looking for a committed Early Years Teacher, ideally with Montessori or reception class experience, to join our successful and hardworking team at The Willow On The Farm Nursery. You must be: Minimum NVQ Level 3 qualified with 2 years experience of working in an early years environment, and ideally with a forest school interest, and someone who is CREATIVE, ARTISTIC and INSPIRING. 

The nursery which was recently accredited with ‘outstanding’ by OFSTED is not advertised as the Montessori school but we have a strong Montessori ethos and use many of the Montessori materials and methods as well as the EYFS.

We are very lucky to be situated on a farm with a large area allocated for Forest School. As well as an excellent start in their education the children will have all the benefits of the outdoors with handling animals, farm walks, tractor-trailer rides, Forest School and farming activities.

The successful candidate must have an excellent command of written and spoken English and be able to inspire our children to reach their full potential.

Job Description: Early Years Practioner

Early Years Practitioner’s Main Responsibilities

  1. To ensure a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for children placed in the nursery school.

    To give support and encouragement to other personnel within the nursery school.

    To be creative, organised and stimulating in planning ahead to implement the daily routine.

    Main Duties

  2. Have a happy and smiley demeanor, show enthusiasm and have a love of the job.

    Have a CAN-DO attitude, show a positive and enthusiastic approach to collaboration and joining our vibrant team.

Show a willingness to role up their sleeves and jump in!  To pre-empt situations before they arise!

Plan, formulate and operate a programme of activities suitable and differentiated for the range of children attending the nursery/forest school, in conjunction with the Managers.

Cover other staff if they are off sick. i.e. if the Forest School Lead is not in you may have to take the children to the Forest School and perform Forest School activities with them.

To develop friendly and positive attitudes to the children, building relationships with and managing their behaviour as set out by school policy.

Work alongside parents of special needs children to achieve full integration within the nursery school.

Foresee the needs of special needs children and give physical, emotional and intellectual guidance as appropriate.

Support all staff and engage in a good staff team spirit.

Liaise with and support parents/carers and other family members.

Liaise with the local Authority and other professionals associated with the nursery school as required (you will be supported by the managers).

Attend staff meetings in or outside working hours, including one long Planning Meeting per term (1pm – 6pm).

Organisation of parents evening in the spring term, to discuss child’s learning and development.

Complete reports at the end of the summer term by the set date.

Each child in your group must have a Learning Journal, consisting of photographs, evidence of work and observations. This must be neat and presentable and be available for parents to see during each term.  These books must be kept up to date and implemented into the weekly planning.  They must be completed by dates set by the Managers.

Each child must have individual targets set each term which should be reviewed by the end of term.  They must be completed by dates set by the Managers.

Each child’s progress against the EYFS Stages of Development should be recorded each term on the OCC tracking tool.

Undertake certain domestic jobs within the nursery school e.g. preparation of snacks, cleansing equipment and other general jobs enabling a clean and germ-free environment. 

Participate in a staff training programme, with two inset days per year (this does not include RULER training). 

Attend termly RULER training (our Emotional Intelligence programme).  Use the RULER technique to be able to talk openly and calmly about staff concerns.

Attend half-termly Supervision and Professional Development meetings with the Manager.  Be able to take constructive criticism or advice with a positive attitude and a willingness to further knowledge and skills.  We are here to support you!

Attend two Parent’s Drinks parties in or outside working hours, one at Christmas and one in the Summer.

Work alongside the Managers to ensure all of the above are fulfilled.

Be prepared to go the extra mile!  Teachers are expected to take work home as and when they need to, to make sure planning, preparation and assessment are up to date.  Any extra hours, and inset training, is included within your salary.
