Early Years Practitioner

Responsible to: Manager/Deputy Manager

Experience & Qualifications:

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Childcare, Learning & Development
  • NNEB Certificate
  • Cache Level 2 or 3 Diploma in Childcare & Education

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Share responsibility for the health, safety and welfare of the children at all times
  • Ensure all children have access to the full curriculum
  • Relate well to the children
  • Guide the development of children’s social behaviour and attitudes
  • Supervise children on indoor or outdoor activities
  • Observe and assess children’s development and progress
  • Keep accurate records of observations, assessments and development of children
  • Act as key person for a group of children
  • Take responsibility for specific activities with large or small groups of children or individuals

Support your Team and your Managers:

  • Organise resources and equipment for use within the nursery
  • Share responsibility for care and maintenance of resources and equipment
  • Lead in preparation and clearing up of activities and encourage children to help
  • Share responsibility for displays
  • Contribute to curriculum development ensuring a stimulating environment
  • Be responsible for specific activities including the planning
  • Attend ½ termly staff and planning meetings
  • Work closely with other agencies and professionals when necessary

Support our Parents:

  • Encourage parents and carers to be involved in the setting and their children’s learning
  • Establish good relationships with parents/carers
  • Supporting parents with outside agencies when necessary

Supporting the Early Years Setting:

  • To promote the aims and policies & procedures of the setting
  • To promote the ethos of the setting at all times
  • Promote and develop wider links within the community
  • To participate in training and performance management as required
  • To attend termly supervision meetings with management
  • To have an up-to-date Enhanced DBS Disclosure.
