Nursery Leadership Team

Reports to: Area Head of Operations

Responsible for: Nursery Team Members & any relevant Relief Team Members

The Nursery Leadership Team comprises of two roles, the Nursery Manager and Head of Early Years Practice, working in dual leadership to provide professional leadership and management of the nursery and to effectively manage the day-to-day running of the nursery including financial operations. Seymour House developed the dual leadership structure to provide the breadth of skills, knowledge and experience required to lead the practice and manage an outstanding nursery. Primarily the Head of Early Years Practice leads the educational practice whilst the Nursery Manager manages the nursery, in accordance with the dual leadership diagram outlining the responsibilities of the Nursery Manager and Head of Early Years Practice. This structure allows for greater specialism in each role and is more robust when combined; yet provides for a seamless quality of service by virtue of the interchangeable roles.

The roles and responsibilities are communicated under 6 headings, the overarching purpose for each is outlined below, specific tasks are outlined in the Dual Leadership Diagram:

Children

Leading an outstanding educational programme/curriculum to ensure children are provided with the opportunity to meet their full potential in line with the organisations vision, mission and values. To ensure high quality teaching and learning, the learning environment, resources and record keeping are effective and children are making progress. Promote and support the development of outstanding practice with regard to inclusion and facilitate partnership with parents/carers, other family members, outside agencies and the wider community to meet the needs of all children.

The Nursery Leadership Team ensures the nursery meets the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage and Ofsted registration and inspection criteria. The Nursery Manager is the Designated Safeguarding Lead and ensures that all safeguarding procedures are promoted and adhered to as well as ensures a safe premises and regard to Health and Safety legislation.

The Leadership team will set a visible leadership example to team, children and their families, and the wider community

Team 

The Nursery leadership Team recruits and retains a highly qualified, skilled and motivated team, and provides opportunities for team to develop their knowledge and skills through mentoring, coaching and training. Leadership is inspirational, supportive and communicates the organisations vision, mission and values, and expectations of the team to work at an outstanding level is imperative. The Nursery Leadership Team monitors team performance through peer observation, skills development and performance review, as well as analysing Key Performance Indicator data to support performance management for turnover and absence, and complies with the organisation’s policies, procedures and all aspects of employment law.

Parents

The Nursery Leadership Team ensures parents/carers receive excellent customer care and communication from the nursery team on all aspects of nursery provision and are encouraged to fully engage in their children’s learning and given opportunity to participate in nursery life and education. The Nursery Leadership Team ensures a high level of customer satisfaction in order to maintain an excellent reputation within the local area, and positively promotes and markets the nursery in the local community and to prospective parents in line with the organisations vision, mission and values in order to maintain satisfactory occupancy levels.

The Nursery Leadership Team establishes, develops and maintains highly professional working relationships with relevant Local Authority Departments, regulatory bodies and other agencies.

Environment

The Nursery Leadership Team ensures the nursery environment is safe, clean and tidy and is maintained to a high and professional standard at all times and leads to ensure there is a culture in place where high regard for the importance of the nursery environment, resources, safety and hygiene is well maintained.

Finance

The Nursery Leadership Team takes a lead on the financial performance of the nursery and meets the nursery’s financial objectives, maximises revenue, manages budgets and expenditure. The Nursery Leadership Team ensures accurate and timely collection of nursery fees, administration of the collection of the FEEE and authorisation of timesheets.

Quality

The Nursery Leadership Team ensures the quality of service conforms with the ISO9001 and leads activities within the twice yearly Reflective Practice Cycle, this is a self-evaluation process to identify and create a nursery development plan alongside the Business Plan. The Leadership Team monitors and evaluates the quality of care and education, sets targets for improvement and leads in external inspection. Ensures adherence to Seymour House policies and procedures and maintains confidentiality for children, parents and employees.

The Nursery Leadership Team is part of the Seymour House Management Team and attends regular meetings and works alongside and supports colleagues from other locations and the Central Management team to ensure the organisation is upholding the vision, mission and values. All members of the Management Team contribute to and shape the direction of the organisation and policies at strategic level.

This job description is designed to be read in conjunction with the Dual Leadership Diagram which sets out an indication of the tasks in each role within the Nursery Management Team.

This job description is not exhaustive and the post holder is required to undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Area Head of Operations. In the absence of either member of the dual leadership partnership the other leader takes on full responsibility of the leadership of the nursery.
