Camberwell After School Project (CASP) provides an integrated childcare service to children from age 2 to 11 years.

CASP aims to advance the development and education of children, young people and adults offering appropriate play, education, care, family learning and out-of-school-hours services and providing appropriate training and learning opportunities to improve the employability, well-being and personal development of young people and adults.

CASP's Beanstalk Climbers Early Years provision currently operates from 8:30am to 2.30pm Monday to Friday 38 weeks per year during term time.

PURPOSE:

To work as part of the management team to provide professional leadership and management to the Early Years practitioners and to ensure that all children receive the highest standards of care and education.

The Room Leader's role is to support the Early Year's Manager with the supervision and co-ordination of the early years learning provision for age 2-years and rising. Enabling children to develop both socially and academically by the provision of the pre-school and early year’s curriculum.

To deliver high quality play provision to all children and their families in a safe, stimulating, and happy environment.

To work closely with the Early Year's Manager to ensure adequate supervision and support of good practice amongst, staff, trainees, students, and volunteers are followed.

MAIN DUTIES: To work within the aims and objectives of CASP strategic plan.

Provide professional and relevant feedback to parents/carers about their child.

To ensure that families and children from all social and cultural groups feels valued and secure.

In the absence of the EY Project Manager take responsibility for managing the service including delegating duties to cover staff.

To ensure the equipment is set up before the children arrive and tidied away after the session.

To ensure that the indoor and the outdoor area is always safe, and the Health and Safety Policy is implemented.

To provide high quality play experiences which fully implement the Early Years Foundation Stage.

Ensure all records of development and learning are fully and accurately maintained by appropriate staff. Keeping all evidence of planning, tracking, and learning outcomes for children.

Provide leadership and support to playroom staff to enable them to establish and maintain positive working relationship.

Ensure the effective implementation of the nursery keyworker procedures and allocate children to keyworkers appropriately.

Support the development of good practice with regards, to special needs and inclusion.

To keep a daily register and other relevant records.

To ensure that all accidents and incidents are recorded and be aware of the First Aid procedure used in the centre.

To make the centre welcoming and where possible accessible to all children and parents / carers with special needs.

To implement Equality and Diversity policies in provision of play materials and play situations available to the children.

To follow policy on discipline which enables staff to be consistent in their handling of children, promoting ‘good’ behaviour rather than punishing ‘bad’.  To be aware of the role and responsibilities of the named SENDCO.

To attend weekly meetings to plan the curriculum and individual learning plans for children and attend team and organisation’s meetings.

To work in partnership with parents/carers, prepare for and attend termly review meetings.

To participate in and encourage child centred activities allowing for children’s choice and development.

To be fully aware of all emergency and security procedures and adhere to the health and safety policy and procedures.

Undertake a shared responsibility for health & safety and cleanliness throughout the nursery.

To attend training and implement Southwark’s Safeguarding Board procedures.  To keep such records confidential and separate.  To be aware of named person who has responsibility for issues concerning Safeguarding Children.

To ensure that children are always supervised indoors and outdoors, in line with Ofsted requirements.

To work in partnership with agencies for example, Speech therapists, Inclusion team. 

To ensure that all Ofsted welfare requirements are met.

To keep up to date with current issues and developments concerning the Early Years and to undertake further training as required.

Ensure that practice and provision in the nursery meet the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage including attending external meetings when required.

CASP service offers a safe and happy environment before and after school with safe travel to and from school.  It also provides a full day service during school holidays to develop socially and academically and a preschool Early Years provision during term time.

CASP’s services include:

  • Beanstalk climbers’ early years pre-school nursery services for children aged 2 to 4 yrs.
  • After School Club for 4 - 11 yrs. with school collection from three local schools, and a range of suitable creative play, education, care, and family learning activities
  • Breakfast Club – includes a school drop off service for 4 to 11 yrs. (Temporary close due to Covid-19)
  • Holiday Play Schemes for 4 to 12 yrs.
