Early Years Consultant
Hove
£41,591 - £44,624
This is an exciting opportunity for an early years consultant to lead a small team providing expert professional advice, guidance and challenge to Brighton & Hove’s private, voluntary and independent childcare settings. The ideal candidate will have experience working at a strategic level with a wide oversight and understanding of early years quality and professional development.
You will need to be a qualified teacher and/or have early years teacher status or be an early years professional, with experience of enabling early years providers to identify and support disadvantaged children, closing attainment gaps between them and their peers. This is a critical time for early years as we recover from the pandemic and aim to ensure that all the city’s young children experience the highest quality provision and reach their full potential
Job Introduction
The role includes
- providing expert professional advice to the local authority on priorities for early years in the city
- working with a range of professional partners to identify needs and offer support
- leading the support planning process for settings which are judged less than good by Ofsted
- developing and implementing an early years quality assurance scheme
- being an expert coach and model good practice in order to raise standards and improve expectations of children’s achievements and learning
- managing a team of early years, childminding and out of school childcare development officers
- interpreting and analysing data to ensure effective targeting of resources
- commissioning the workforce development and training offer, ensuring it is adapted for changing needs and requirements of private, voluntary and independent childcare providers
- maintaining and updating knowledge, skills and understanding of excellent early years practice, including speech, language and communication and trauma-informed practice, relevant government guidance and legislative changes
- developing and providing high quality materials for providers ensuring their access to current information and guidance through local networks, online resources and news bulletins
In addition to the required qualifications you will need to have a record of leading improvements to early education with clear evidence of impact, including influencing those who may be resistant to change. Your professional development should include speech, language and communication, trauma-informed practice and effective anti-racist practice. You will also need to have knowledge of disadvantage and how this affects the educational experiences of young children and of early years provision in a strategic context.
Along with the ability to manage a budget, and to interpret and analyse data you will also need excellent interpersonal skills and be able to understand complex issues in relation to early education and to problem solve.
